Spooky Ringtones and Exciting News

Well it seems I took a small unintentional hiatus. Actually, looking back I see that this month has been a pretty slow post-wise. You'd think that my being on summer break would mean more time to write, but I've been more busy than ever. Busy and stressed, because trying to get out of Florida has been a hassle (And I'll get back to you on said hassle when it's over and done with).

"Did she say getting out of Florida?"

Why yes I did! I've made my distaste for the Sunshine State clear on many occasions and now our 5-year old plans to move are finally becoming a reality. Of course, I've been broken up about leaving my friends, (another reason I've had less time to write. I have to spend as much time as possible with everyone after all) but I'm extremely excited for the move. And best of all....we're going to Canada! Kelowna specifically. I would much prefer Vancouver, because I'm a city kind of girl, but it's too expensive. Plus, the town is pretty big, beautiful, and I'll be off to university soon enough so I'm not too concerned about where I'll be living for my last 2 years of high school.

Which leads me to another point. Someone asked me if I was planning on wearing my Scarecrow costume to a convention. If we were staying here it would have been showcased at Megacon, but now I'll be taking a bus down to Vancouver for Fan Expo so if anyone at any point knows they'll be there (slim chance I know, but worth a shot) drop me a line and we can meet up! Of course, it's not till next April, which gives me plenty of time to finish my costume. No updates on the mask this week because I've just done more paper mache and a planned out the rest. I'm hopefully going to finish it over the weekend and then I'll post some pictures.

Now away from the personal stuff and on to the actual post! So we all know we can't be super goth all the time. Some of us have jobs and uniforms and the like, and it's fairly difficult/sometimes just plain exhausting to be uber spooky 24/7. That's where the little things come in. You can decorate your house as you wish, spend your time DIYing or whatever else floats your boat, but I find that sometimes, even smaller things can add a splash of uniqueness in your life. Things such as ringtones! Every time I hear one of those boring, preset ringtones that come with cellphones I can't help but feel a little incredulous. In a world so driven by technology you're bound to hear your phone all the time, so why not make it fun? And there are plenty of options for Goths if you get creative.

Honestly, I couldn't get cheesier with mine. Every time my mom calls I hear the wonderfully campy and fun Addams family theme going off nearby.

You could indulge your love of spooky things and your geeky side if you used the Luigi's Mansion theme song. Unfortunately I couldn't find the original version on Youtube, but here's the remix from Super Smash Bros. I've actually got E. Gadd's ringtone from the new game set for my dad, but you could argue that the original theme is even better.

Or how about Beetlejuice? Don't you dare try to tell me you can go wrong with Beetlejuice! Of course, you can't have the whole song as a ringtone, but you can cut it down to the best part.

Because I love cheesy things and thoroughly enjoy embracing my cliches, I'm also going to suggest Spooky Scary Skeletons for shits and giggles.

Danse Macabre satisfies my appreciation of classical music as well so it's something I'd love to hear all the time.

Those are only a few suggestions that I could come up with off the top of my head. There are countless others. You could always cut part of a favorite song and make that your ringtone. Not to mention, there are hundreds of fun sounds to use as text alerts. Coffin door opening anyone?

I'm afraid I don't have an outfit post for you today because I've been lazy with my picture taking. But now I'm curious. What do you use for ringtones? Fun fact: I've set any unrecognized numbers that call me to play the Sherlock theme....get it? Because it's a 'mystery'? .... I'm a huge dork.

Recent Artwork

Now I'm not really an aspiring artist, just a (I'd like to think) relatively creative person who channels the soul sucking boredom of math into drawings. It started back in 6th grade when the only thing I could draw was a very questionable looking wolf and a surprisingly symmetrical flower. Gradually, I got better and I'd like to think nowadays, though I'm hardly an expert, I'm also not too shabby.

Mostly, I stick to fanart because I know what the characters look like and can work with them, but occasionally I get a little spurt of originality. Normally, they're comic/cartoon/anime styled pieces because I'm just not very good at drawing realistic things. Trust me, I've tried. And even thinking about the pain that went into learning how to draw anatomically correct positions....well let's not dwell on that. So over this school year I've amassed a fairly decent pile of math class doodles and thought I ought to share some of my better ones with you guys.

Some of them were drawn with references, some solely from my brain.  A lot of these are actually unfinished, (Still in sketch form) but I normally color with sharpie, and occasionally chalk pastels.

I'm catching up on Supernatural season 8 and have to say I think it's recovered greatly from the lackluster 7th season. But then again, Crowley is making more appearances, which is always a plus. Point in fact, Mark Sheppard is a fantastic actor and he plays the suave King of Hell wonderfully with his tailored suits and quick retorts. (But seriously, Sheppard seems to appear in everything I watch. Supernatural? Firefly? Doctor Who? I'm sensing a trend here) And how can you not root for a snarky villain who's first question to his adversaries when they pick up the phone is "What are you wearing?" followed by an "I'm sexting you an address,"? I nearly did a spit take at that.

Not to mention he leaves a little demon smiley by his texts...
I've also started Game of Thrones (I caved under the peer pressure) and I'm enjoying it a lot thus far.
As far as blogging goes, I've got an Etsy feature, some movie reviews, and more summer outfit posts headed your way. Also, an exciting piece of information I've been keeping to myself that I suppose you ought to know about ;)

30 Day Clothing Challenge~ Day 14: An Outfit you Wish you Had

An outfit I wish I had? Geez, I don't really know here to start with this one. There are so many! Not to mention, now I have to go hunt them down.

*5 minutes*

Well! Here's a decent list of a few of the outfits that have caught my fancy in the past, and were actually laying about my desktop. They've been there so long I'm not sure where I got most of them, so I'm afraid I can't credit the models on the ones I should. If you know who some of the people are, drop me a line and I'll add their name and link to something of theirs.

Obviously a clothing brand.
I covet so much of their things.

That Jacket...
Good ol' deathrock

I would kill for his jacket.
I will never have enough jackets.

This. All of it.

Jacket...
That hat is so lovely.

So as you can see there's a lot of romantic type things with a small dash of deathrock and a healthy amount of Japanese influenced fashion, specifically Gothic Aristocrat. I love all of it so much and if I had money...well, you should see my wishlist.

On a little note before I go, does anyone in the U.S. remember that Buzz Lightyear show that aired years and years ago? The other day it just popped into my head and I remembered watching it when I was little. The only reason I remembered it actually, was because someone mentioned Nosferatu and my brain made a little connection I had never gotten as a kid. My favorite character in the show was a robotic vampire. He was British and snarky and very dapper for a robot. (Really! He had a monocle!)

 And get this.

His name was NOS-4-A2.

As you can imagine, I had a bit of a giggle over that.

Happy Halloween!

My trick or treating plans blew up in my face so I'm tagging along with my friend to a party her church's youth group is having. Not the most fun thing I could be doing but hey, I get to dress up, there's candy and games, and well, I've been before and the pastor's son is really hot so... ;)

I'll get full pics later when I have more time. And by that I mean real ones. This was a costume test run from yesterday and I didn't even put my hair under the wig... They'll probably go up with the Sophistique Noir challenge I'm doing tomorrow. But behold...Grell!

Yup, I'm a dork. I want to perfect this eventually and get a longer red coat and the real shoes, but this will definitely do for now. I also need to start my Lady Loki and Harley Quinn costumes since there are a few cons coming up. I think I'll start with Harley. She's a lot easier. I'm caught between the Arkham City version with a corset, pants, and pigtails, or a more classic version with a dress or bodysuit with the cowl. We'll see.

I'll leave you with a cartoon and song in the Halloween Spirit.  Until tomorrow!

Obituary Challenge

I told you guys I would get around to it!

So basically I'm out of the hospital (and I have that awful IV out) and going home with antibiotics. This thing sure was stubborn...I received IV antibiotics for 48 hours and it's still going to take a while to get rid of. All I can say is I'm happy to be home where I can have real food and I'm going to put this thing behind me. Of course, I'm not going to school tomorrow or Friday so if I do the math (7 classes x 6 days) I've got 42 lessons and homework assignments to make up. In other words, I'm screwed.

However, I'm going to use this experience positively *cough* and use it to create my obituary. (Real positive Megan...) I was tagged by OddGhoulOut over at Bats in the Belfry, Cats in the Attic. Thank you!

I'm only adding this because, well it's pretty. It didn't come with the challenge ^^

Rules:

  1. Link back to whoever tagged you.
  2. Put these rules in your tag.
  3. Write an obituary about yourself (it can be as funny or as serious as you like).
  4. Write about a paragraph or two (or more if necessary) in length.
  5. You may tag up to 10 people, and be sure to link to them.
  6. Have fun, because creative writing is one of the greatest joys in life!

Obituary:

Megan was brought in to the Orlando Hospital late last night. Everyone was momentarily shocked to note the lack of the usual black makeup, which we had assumed had adhered to her face at this point. What seemed at first to be a deep foot infection caused by bacteria actually had a more sinister cause. The deadly affliction occurred shortly after she accompanied her friends to their church in order to participate in the 'Boys VS Girls' event and was forced to wear pink. The restraint she showed in not going off about the sexist implications of the color choice only worsened the onset of the infection. Unwilling, prolonged exposure to the sun was the ultimate blow, and made saving her a futile prospect. Despite a reapplication of black nail polish and viewing of the Adams Family movies and Dracula she did not pull through. She passed away peacefully, listening to Bauhaus and reading the Picture of Dorian Gray. Shortly before, she finished her charcoal rendition of The Joker which she leaves to her little brother. Her ashes will be pressed into a vinyl containing a mix of her favorite songs and left with her family.

I really did do most of that at the hospital ^^ Also, I really did have to wear pink at that church event I was strong-armed into... it wasn't pleasant. Not so much the color as the fact that we had to do it and they picked a color so commonly considered "girly". But I won't go into that.

Oh, and I'm not really kidding about the ashes. You can really do it! Look!

And now to go alphabetically down my blog list and try to find people I don't believe have participated yet...
  1. A Goth in College
  2. Bethezda's Preoccupations
  3. Goth Mary Poppins
  4. Gothically Yours...
  5. Memoirs of a Scream Queen
  6. Milking the Rolling Cow
  7. Nocturne Street
  8. The Everyday Goth
  9. The Halloween Ladybug

Amusing Wiki-hows

Have you ever simply gone on Wiki-how and typed in things for the fun of it? If you haven't I suggest you open another tab and go crazy. It's nearly as amusing as urban dictionary. Half of the time, I'm not sure if the articles are serious or just people trolling for the heck of it. It just seems like a lot of effort to write a whole article if you aren't being serious....but then again some people have no lives outside of the internet. (Guilty as charged) Here are my absolute favorites.

For those looking how to completely ignore their own personality and just adopt a new one.

  1. It's always a good idea to go after celebrities. Apparently all you have to do to be Robert Smith is read read read, write write write, and listen to The Cure.
  2. Learn to act like Jareth The Goblin King. With helpful tips like learn to ballroom dance, sing, and juggle balls. *snort*
  3. How to be a "Tough Guy". Oh dear. This had me giggling the whole way through. (Gentlemen out there I assure you there are many women attracted to feminine guys ;))
  4.  Want to be a Slytherin? Practice your cold stare, gather a few henchmen, and dress in a "sinister" fashion. (I find this mildly offensive...I'm a Slytherin!)

Then we attempt to change our species.

    1.  The article on how to be a werewolf tells you to "move as if hunting". I'm fairly certain people will be put off by that. The video at the bottom is highly....informative.
    2. This article on how to look and act like a Twilight vampire cracks me up every time.

      Louis and Lestat don't approve.

And finally have a a few ridiculous ones that shouldn't even exist.

      1. How to count sheep. It takes eight steps for them to explain to imagine sheep...and then count them.
      2. How to take a shower. I'm pretty sure if you're old enough to look up and read this article then you would have figured out long ago how to take a shower.
      3. How to deal with having a big butt as a teenager. ....come again?
      4. The absolute best one is how to fight like the apes in Planet of the Apes. I especially like the warning further down which says "Do not try ape style against actual apes or gorillas or they will tear your arms off."

Oh people of the world, sometimes I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see things like this....
